I think it’s a little early to determine who she looks like most, but the majority has said Mike…She’ll have Mike’s looks and my attitude, the world could always use another me right :-)
So I guess I should have named this blog 39 Weeks because Miss Laila Marie decided to surprise us a week early. So here’s the timeline.
3/21: So I decided to finally get up and walk for 30 min. this morning and then sat on my exercise ball while watching American Idol, which I didn’t intend to be on there for 2 hrs but I got caught up in show and stuff I was doing on the computer.
@11pm: I decided to finally try and get into the bed and I was having some light cramping/gas type pains but it wasn’t anything of concern or worth timing in my opinion.
::Later that night:: so as the night went on the pains stuck around and started becoming a little more consistent but still I thought nothing of it.
3/22: 3AM: This time around I woke up with the same pains which weren’t that bad just annoying so I decided to start timing them and to my surprise these pains were coming pretty much every 5 minutes, lasting about a minute, and eventually lasted for an hour (which is the 5-1-1 rule).
5:40AM: By this time I decided to get off the phone with Mike wake up my mom and head to the hospital because it was at this time that I lost my mucus plug, sorry for the TMI, but I didn’t know this at the time I just saw something that didn’t look normal to me and I needed my doctor.
6:00AM: I arrive at the ER and after being monitored for about an hour I was officially admitted to labor and delivery at around 7AM :-)
Throughout the day: I managed my contractions until 3cm and then I got my epidural. To be honest although the contractions were intense, they did honestly feel like menstrual cramps x 10. But everyone has a different pain tolerance and let’s be honest I only went to 3 cm and that was enough for me so I can imagine the labor pains further in are pretty intense.
7PM: It’s time to push! I told my nurse I started to feel pressure and she decided to turn my epidural off which was around 6PM. So needless to say by pushing time let’s just say I wasn’t so numb. And not to scare anyone but for me the pushing part of labor was the part I WAS NOT looking forward to and it lived up to every fear and piece of anxiety I had.
7:35PM: Welcomee Ms. Laila Marie Reddick. Weighing in at 6lbs 11.8 ounces and 20 inches!
Overall I must give myself a pat on the back and say a job well done because I did far better than I ever imagined :-)
Doctor’s Updates:
Dialated: 0 cm :-(
Effaced: 60% :-)
Due Date: March 29th
She’s moved down even more since my visit last week. And my doctor predicted that I could possibly go into labor next week. I hope so :-)
My Updates: so she is still moving around like crazy obviously enjoying her last couple weeks in paradise as I am entering the days of extreme discomfort. My nights are spent sleeping upright and for some reason I can no longer sleep on my left side so in a way I guess these restless nights are preparing me for the sleepless nights I have ahead. But besides that I really have no other complaints besides this waiting game is driving me insane!
On to Week 39….
My one wish for baby Laila is…
If and when she’s ever faced with life’s challenges she looks to God and chooses to Dance :-)
It’s weird this whole thing called pregnancy. During my first 2 trimesters I had no desire to eat anything sweet but this trimester I have to have something sweet with every meal, literally. Everyone is constantly asking my what I am craving and I think this trimester I finally have an answer, it’s frozen yogurt! I am obsessed with the create your own frozen yogurt places, like menchies and yogurtland, I’m shocked the girls don’t know me by now because I go for yogurt at least 4 times a week, or maybe they are just being nice and pretending not to recognize me ;-)
So I guess I’ll be writing more frequently since we are in the home stretch with only 2 weeks and a couple days left. I did have another doctors appointment today and although my doctor will not do an internal exam until 38 Weeks, which he is extremely adamant about, he was able to tell me whether or not the baby was in position for delivery and it seems like my little diva is anxious to get into the world because he could tell that her butt was upward and facing outward but her head was so low that he will have to wait until next week to tell me exactly how far down she is :-) I am extremely excited about this because it means that the ball is still rolling in the right direction but the real indicator will come next week when he tells me how many centimeters I’m dilated and how much I am effaced. So until then…
